Sydney, Australia -

Baxter Healthcare has marked the start of Reconciliation Week (May 27 – June 3) with the launch of its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

The Reflect RAP acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Nations peoples of Australia and provides a framework to deepen Baxter Healthcare’s understanding of its sphere of influence and the unique contribution it can make to reconciliation.

Baxter Healthcare joins other leading corporate, government and not-for-profit organisations in Australia in making the formal commitment to the five dimensions of reconciliation – Race relations, Equality and equity, Institutional integrity, Unity, and Historical acceptance.

The launch of the Reflect RAP follows the announcement of the Baxter Healthcare Scholarship for Indigenous Nursing and Midwifery students at Western Sydney University and is the next step in the company’s global racial justice program “ACT: Activating Change Today”.

General Manager for Baxter Australia & New Zealand, Steven Flynn, said Baxter Healthcare remains committed to delivering tangible programs to help improve equality and justice in the communities our employees live and work in.

“As one of the largest diversified healthcare companies in Australia, we see firsthand the impact that deliberate steps towards inclusion, equity and diversity can make towards improving the health and lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” Mr Flynn said.

“This Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan is part of our pledge to Activating Change Today within our local communities and areas of influence.

“For more than 90 years globally and almost half a century in Australia, Baxter Healthcare has held true to Our Mission to Save and Sustain Lives. On behalf of all our employees, we recognise the opportunity to further that Mission and remove racial inequality to deliver economic and health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”

Reconciliation Australia CEO, Karen Mundine congratulated Baxter Healthcare on the release of its first RAP.

“Baxter Healthcare joins a network of more than 1,100 corporate, government and not-for-profit organisations that have made a formal commitment to reconciliation through the RAP program.

“The RAP program’s strength is its framework of relationships, respect and opportunities, allowing an organisation to strategically set its reconciliation commitments in line with its own business objectives, for the most effective outcomes.

“This Reflect RAP enables Baxter Healthcare to deepen its understanding of its sphere of influence and the unique contribution it can make to lead progress across the five dimensions.”
