Interview Tips

Before The Interview

  1. Research the organisation as much as possible (services, products, customers and competition) to give you an understanding of the team’s needs.
  2. Know your strengths and how they correspond to the needs of the position that you have applied for.
  3. Anticipate objections the interviewer may raise about your candidacy and be prepared to demonstrate linkages where your skills appear to differ from the position requirements.
  4. Be organised by ensuring the effective management of timing logistics, grooming, transportation and resume presentation.
  5. Practice your interview technique to increase your comfort zone and to overcome any inherent anxieties.

During The Interview

  1. Dress professionally to give yourself confidence. If you feel good, others will respond to you accordingly.
  2. Be on time because arriving late for an interview can leave a negative impression.
  3. Be prepared by bringing along a folder containing extra copies of your resume and a copy of your references. You should also have questions prepared to ask at the end of the interview.
  4. Show enthusiasm via a firm handshake, plenty of eye contact and a confident voice.
  5. Listen to the interview questions. This ensures that you will interpret the information correctly and are then able to respond with an appropriate answer. Make sure you understand what is being asked and get further clarification if you are unsure.
  6. Be prepared for behavioural questions, which ask about specific past experiences in your job history that directly relate to the open position. Whilst it is impossible to know the exact questions your interviewer may ask, think about the qualifications and skills that are important for the position you are applying for.
  7. Ask business and position related questions to find out valuable information, as well as indicate your interest in the position.
