History

The 1960s

1960 - Baxter New Zealand commences operations as Ethicals Ltd at O’Rouke Road, Penrose and begin making sterile intravenous solutions.

1962 - New Zealand company becomes McGaw Ethicals Ltd after joining with US company McGaw and relocates to Glen Innes, Auckland with over 160 staff.

Also in 1962 we begin making plastic sets in New Zealand.

1963 - Baxter Australia commences operations – a joint venture with Drug Houses of Australia (DHA), with a small range of quality products manufactured and serviced from several locations.

1965 - New Zealand expands product range to produce solution in glass ampoules.

1969 - Baxter Australia purchases DHA and operates in its own right as Travenol Australia.

The 1970s

1973 - Operation for Travenol is moved to a modern production and administration complex at Old Toongabbie, New South Wales.

The 1980s

1980 - New Zealand company is purchased by Travenol.

1982 - First commercial Aseptic Compounding Unit opens in Auckland.

Also in 1982, Homecare, then known as Travacare is established as a support service for customers in the home.

1983 - Toongabbie pharmacy opens in New South Wales.

1986 - Travenol merges facilities nationally, relocating manufacturing from Balgowlah, NSW and administration/distribution from North Rocks, NSW to an expanded Toongabbie facility.

1987 - Company name changes from Travenol to Baxter Healthcare Pty Ltd.

1989 - New Zealand business stops production of sets and I.V solutions and relocates to Allright Place, Mt Wellington. The company continues with Pharmacy operations at this new facility.

The 1990s

1991 - Baxter Australia wins Australian Quality Award and Baxter Quality Award.

Perth distribution facility opens.

1992 - Baxter Australia wins second Baxter Quality Award for 1992/1993.

1993 - Baxter opens a sales office and distribution centre in Christchurch, New Zealand.

1996 - Brisbane sales and distribution facility opens.

Adelaide sales, customer service and distribution facility opens.

1997 - Baxter Australia wins third Baxter Quality Award.

Baxter Pharmacy Services opens at St Vincent’s Hospital, NSW.

Baxter Pharmacy Services opens in Waikato, NZ.

New Sales office and distribution centre opens in Canningvale, WA.

1998 - Technical Services, Customer Service, Homecare and Sales relocate from the Toongabbie offices to new facility at St James Place, Seven Hills.

1999 - Baxter Pharmacy Services opens in Coorparoo, QLD.

Melbourne depot opens in Brunswick.

Baxter relocates its New Zealand head office in Auckland to a purpose built building at Vestey Drive, Mt Wellington and build a new pharmacy.

Sales, Marketing and Technical Services relocate to South Street, Rydalmere. Homecare and Customer Service rejoin team at Toongabbie.

The 2000s

2000 - Baxter Pharmacy Services in Brunswick, Melbourne, opens.

Baxter Australia opens the first Baxter Therapy Services Centre in Midland, WA.

NZ Pharmacy Business wins a Baxter Quality Award.

2002 - Baxter Therapy Services dialysis centre opens in Payneham, SA.

Warehousing facility opens in Wetherill Park, NSW.

2003 - Baxter Therapy Services dialysis centre opens in Kew, VIC.

Baxter Therapy Services dialysis centre opens in Greenslopes, QLD.

Sales and marketing office established in Baulkham Hills, NSW.

2005 - Baxter Pharmacy Services opens in Canningvale, WA.

2009 - Baxter Pharmacy Services opens in South Australia.

2010 - Baxter Pharmacy Services opens in Christchurch, NZ.

Opening of new Sydney Baxter Pharmacy Services.
